1. A
lot of programs put small pieces set to automatically load every time you load
Windows. You can remove these programs from your
Start Menu, which will allow Windows to start faster. Click
Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/ Maintenance Wizard. Click "no" until
you get to a listing of your "StartUp" group. Remove everything.
Tip: Office and Outlook appear to be unaffected when "Office Startup" is
removed.
2. Window 98 has a setting to check for removable floppy drives, which is
set to on by default. If you dont have any removable floppies, you can uncheck this for
faster bootup.
Go to the System applet in Control Panel, click Performance, File System, Floppy Disk and
uncheck it.
